Solar Energy

Most of the industries around the world want to use renewable solar energy because it is economical. Solar energy is being used in transportation signaling for lighthouses and also in aircraft warning lights. Solar renewable also power monitoring equipments in industries. This form of renewable alternative energy also provides electricity in remote areas. Solar energy is one of the most widely used and popular forms of alternative energy that is easily accessible from the sun. People around the world have realized the importance of renewable solar energy. Solar renewable energy does not produce pollution as is the case with conventional sources of energy.

Conventional sources of energy can get depleted in the coming years but one will always find abundant solar energy on this planet. Solar energy as an alternative energy resource has a great future and potential. This is what solar energy companies have realized and so are developing methods that can easily and effectively utilize solar energy. The variable cost involved in installing solar energy powered devices can be brought down to zero.

The prices of conventional sources of energy are volatile and change according to their demand and supply. But this is not so with solar energy. Solar energy is a low cost renewable alternative energy source.

The dependence on conventional sources of energy that are used to meet the energy demands can be reduced by using solar energy. Solar Energy is a green renewable energy source that can be used for the generation of electricity that can be stored and used for various purposes later.

Biodiesel generators

Bio fuels are the natural fuels that can be to generate power. Biodiesel power resources can be used to generate bio diesel power that can be used in many industrial applications. Bio diesel generators are the machines that are used for the purpose of generating bio diesel power.

In remote areas or at places where there is no power back up, back up and small scale electricity generators are being commonly used for the generation of power. These generators use bio diesel as a fuel for the engines. The biodiesel power resources not only generate electricity but also use a heat exchanger and a heat recovery system to keep the internal spaces warm. These types of bio diesel generators are also called micro co-generators or mini co-generators that can be easily and efficiently installed in houses and small businesses.

Electricity can also be generated on a large scale by using bio diesel power resources but with a few problems. Biodiesel power resources are basically used as alternative power resources to power automobiles and can only meet this demand as of now. Another problem is that biodiesel power resources are expensive means of generating power and cannot be made abundantly available.

Biodiesel generators as green renewable energy equipments can greatly reduce air pollution as they are powered by a clean and green fuel. The use of biodiesel generators in houses and industries can reduce the production of hazardous and polluting by- products to preserve the environment.

Utilization of solar energy

Sun is the ultimate renewable alternative energy source that has given energy to us for billions of years and will continue to do so for many more years to come. The amount of solar energy received by the earth is very small. But this renewable solar energy is sufficient enough to meet the energy requirements many generations to come. The solar energy as an alternative energy source can be used for many purposes.

Solar energy can be classified into solar active (direct use) and solar passive (indirect use) on the basis of its usage. Solar active energy can be further categorized into solar thermal and solar photovoltaic.

Solar thermal energy is used to collect renewable solar energy and then convert this energy into heat energy. The heat energy can be used for water heating and heating of air. The solar energy in the form of heat energy can be used cooking, drying and in the distillation process. Collectors are used to collect renewable solar energy. A transferring medium is used that transfers heat to a heat storage tank that stores the solar energy and acts as an alternative power store.

Solar photovoltaic converts the solar renewable energy into electricity that can be used for several purposes. This electricity can either be used directly or it can be stored in battery systems for later use.

Indirect use of solar energy can be used to keep the buildings warm. Passive solar energy techniques are used for lighting, air conditioning and water and space heating purposes.

Solar photovoltaic cell

A solar photovoltaic cell is a device used for converting renewable solar energy into electricity. It is also called a solar cell and converts the solar renewable energy into electrical power directly. A solar photovoltaic cell is made up of alloys of silicon

When sunlight from the sun which is an alternative energy resource falls on solar cells, the electrons get excited and leave their positions. These electrons move towards the surface of the device and this movement creates an electron imbalance between the front and the back surfaces. When these surfaces are connected by wires an electric current passes between the negatively charged surface and the positively charged surface.

The photovoltaic cell or the solar cell converts the renewable solar energy into direct current which is used for small electronic equipments or for domestic purposes. If the electricity produced by solar cells has to be used for commercial purposes, the direct current needs to be converted to alternating current which can then be supplied for use in industries. The solar renewable energy in the form of electricity can be stored in alternative energy stores or batteries for future use. The solar cells are also used in some experimental cars. In these, the renewable solar energy is converted to electrical energy to run these cars.

Solar cells work well if the amount of sunlight received is more. Climatic conditions like fog, clouds etc. have an adverse affect on the working of solar cells because the amount of solar energy received is less.

Solar ponds

The sun is the best renewable energy source available to the mankind. Renewable solar energy is the most abundantly available alternative energy source on this planet.

A new way of trapping renewable solar energy is by using solar ponds. Solar ponds are solar collectors built on a large scale that have an integrated heat storage capability that can be used to provide thermal energy. In ordinary water ponds the sun’s rays heat water which rises upwards and loses the heat it possesses to the atmosphere. Therefore the pond water remains at an atmospheric temperature. A solar pond does not allow water to rise upwards by dissolving salt in the bottom layer of the pond. This makes the water too heavy to rise upwards.

The renewable solar energy pond has three zones. The topmost zone is called the surface zone or the Upper Convective zone. This zone has a small salt content and is at atmospheric temperature. The bottom most layer or zone has the maximum salt content and is called storage zone or Lower Convective zone that collects and stores solar renewable energy in the form of heat.

The middle zone is known as the Non Convective zone. At this layer, the salt content increases as the depth increases and vice versa. This zone acts as an insulator and permits sunlight to reach the bottom most layer or storage zone and keeps it trapped there in the form of renewable solar energy.

Solar ponds can be constructed economically in any area and can be designed to use the renewable solar energy in an effective manner.
